Unreality
Reality, memory, identity or perception cannot be taken at face value. Simulated and constructed worlds, dream logic, impossible environments, overlapping realities, altered consciousness and unreliable subjective experience. Across science fiction, psychological drama, horror, comedy and romance. A twist ending, magical ability or unusual setting alone is insufficient. Mostly English-language, with selected international exceptions. Independently curated from BFI puzzle-film recommendations and film-by-film editorial additions. Not an official BFI list. No automatic franchise imports.
