Biography

Dan Kapelovitz grew up in unincorporated Arapahoe County in Colorado. He studied film at Wesleyan University, where his thesis film "The Bastard Son of a Virgin Whore" won the Frank Capra Award for Best Comedy. From 1996 to 2006, Kapelovitz produced nearly two hundred episodes of the highly influential experimental TV shows "Threee Geniuses" and "Kapelovision" while working numerous odd jobs, such as grocery delivery boy, human test subject, and Features Editor of Hustler Magazine. His first feature film was "Threee Geniuses: The Re-Death of Psychedelia," which premiered at Cinefamily along with a live performance. It is available for streaming on Night Flight Plus. In 2012, Kapelovitz finalized a project that took 20 years to complete entitled "Triple Fisher: The Lethal Lolitas of Long Island," in which he combined all three Amy Fisher made-for-TV movies into one ultimate meta-drama. The film played at the 2013 Everything is Terrible Festival. The film is distributed by American Genre Film Archive (AGFA). In 2014, he started work on his next project, "48 Hrs. Literally," a film based on the 1982 Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte action comedy that will literally have a running time of 48 hours. The 96-minute feature-length trailer for the film took ten years to complete, and premiered in 2025 at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival and won the prize for Best Experimental Film. That same year, Kapelovitz released "120 Days of Sodom Literally," which is "The Longest Film Ever Made"™ with a running time of 120 days—literally. At 12:00:01 on January 1, 2024, Kapelovitz released "Steamboat Willie in KapeloVision"—the first-ever lawfully created film featuring Mickey Mouse, who entered the public domain at that exact moment. Kapelovitz's short films "Scopitone Rising" and "Blucifer Rising," as well as his feature films "Mondo Mondrian" and "Anti-Western" were all completed in 2026. In addition to filmmaking, Kapelovitz is a criminal defense attorney in Hollywood.
